Morphological damage. Nuclei counts (nuclei/mm2) obtained using H&E stained cross-sections are shown for the gastrocnemius muscle immediately adjacent to the MTJ. Damage 24 h post-injury was appreciated in the two groups with AT shortening (+P < 0.05), but the stepped increase in AT shortening from 0.7 mm to 1.4 mm did not result in greater damage.
